RAINBOW'S BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP
Rainbow Children's Hospital & BirthRight is proud to launch Rainbow's Breastfeeding Support Group. We understand that breastfeeding is not an easy process for everyone. It takes a lot of time, dedication and effort. Anything that requires these three elements, require the support of the community as well. This support group brings three aspects with it — the Breastfeeding Club, Human Milk Bank & Breastfeeding Science. Here, expecting mothers and mothers who have recently delivered at our hospital can seek help in understanding the importance of proper breastfeeding, the role of a lactation counsellor, learn about lactation positions, get access to donated breast milk for their baby and a lot more. Let's aim for a world where breastfeeding is normalized and every mother gets the chance to bond with her baby unconditionally.

When I was pregnant, many of my friends who are mothers would tell me about their negative experiences with breastfeeding. Painful breasts, cracked nipples, back pain נI was terrified and was thinking about starting formula feeds early on. But after my delivery, the doctors, nurses and lactation counsellor at BirthRight helped me learn the correct way to breastfeed and empowered me to look at breastfeeding as a wonderful bonding experience.
My wife is 37 weeks pregnant. To help us be prepared, my wife and I signed up for BirthRight's lactation classes. We were so pleasantly surprised by how they encouraged the husbands to also participate in the process of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is no longer viewed as a 'women only' responsibility. The classes have taught us a lot and we now feel like we are prepared for this stage.
When my baby was born, she was struggling to latch on. The lactation counsellor taught me different positions that I could hold my baby during feeding. But she still wouldn't latch. I was devasted. Then, the counsellor suggested that we buy a breast pump and express the milk instead of shifting to formula. I am grateful that the counsellor encouraged me to do this, so now my baby is enjoying the benefits of breast milk.
